Ms. Helen has lived in her home for the past 13 years, however she also grew up in the home. Her parents were the first people to live in it when it was built in the 1950's. Her mother is now 100 years old and lives in a nursing home near by. Ms. Helen wants to continue living in the home as she ages, however, health and finances have limited her abilities to make needed repairs on the home for it to be a safe place to age in place.
Roof leaks caused the ceiling to cave in in the Spring. Several rooms had large holes that allowed precipitation and outside air to enter her home. "You don't know how much I would appreciate help with my roof," she said.
Thanks to the generosity of funders, Rebuilding Together Tulsa replaced Ms. Helen's roof! Through RTT's Energy Efficiency program, PSO provided funding to repair ceilings throughout the home that were damaged by roof leaks. Weekly volunteers also came in to level out uneven steps leading up to the home and installed a new handrail to provide stability as Ms. Helen enters and exits her home.
After repairs were complete, Ms. Helen said, "I can listen to the rain and know it won't come inside my house. I am going to be warmer this winter, too. I am so proud of my house!"
Rebuilding Together Tulsa has provided free home repairs for over 1,800 homeowners since 1997. None of this would be possible without our generous funders, supporters and volunteers!
